Beside the World
24" x 18"
Mixed Media
on Canvas
2007

This painting speaks to me of somnolence and how the middle of the night can be fraught with the peril of deep seriousness. I'm often awake painting in those long dark hours, and when that despairing heaviness threatens to cover me like a thick black blanket, I can feel a little whisper of light pass through me. It's like having an angel's breath enter my lungs, lifting me and cleansing me. It allows me to step sideways from my thoughts and I feel like I can sit companionably with eternity beside the world.
