Sunset Shadows
12" x 9"
Acrylic on Canvas
2005

I have always been fascinated with the way light and dark play beneath forest leaves. The sun was setting and the sky was lit with a deep, intense gold, balanced in turn with the shadows under the canopy above. As a slight warm breeze filtered through the wood, the leaves would flutter gently, revealing their colour amid the intense contrasts.

I could feel the spirit of the land in this moment.

This piece has an great deal of texture, and hidden in that texture are the images of thunderbirds in flight, flying through the painting, around it, under it.

The breath of summer life intwined itself in all that I see, breath, and feel, planting in my heart a growing love of this land I call my home.

Summer sunset, light and shadow. One day I will lie in this ground and my bones will remember as my spirit soars free, melting into and becoming a part of this beautiful world.

Your work is beautiful! I love the composition and the texture in this piece (which you cannot get with watercolor!) The previous one is beautiful, too (Turtle Woman, is that it?) Anyway, I'm going to link you on my blog the next time I do an update!
