A Nation Rising

There is an innate beauty and power in seeing Native American men overcome the negative cycles of the past. I am energized and excited when I hear of a positive role model, or a slow but sure change for the better in First Nations communities. The model for this painting didn't even know he was being drawn. He sat on a park bench, listening to the stories of his children as he tied their shoes, provided them with apples from his bag and then lifted them high into the air, delighting in their laughter. I remember thinking to myself, “this is the future”. If we can just allow such tender valiance to grow and thrive we'll leave such a better world for our children. This careful tending to the development of our children, teaching them our traditions and giving them our unconditional love, will ensure that as we grow older we will see the wonderful fulfillment of a Nation Rising.
