Dragon Vert
Acrylic and
Gold Leaf
on Canvas
16" x 8"
2005

As a companion to Crossing Into Heaven, I painted this smaller piece with a challenge to myself: I am often painting with intense colours, and I wanted set aside that 'security blanket'. This painting is the result.

In fact this is the painting that preceded 'Flight' and was most likely inspired by the 'Golden Stag', both of which are also somewhat monochromatic.

I love both of your dragons! Aren't dragons the most wonderful creatures for artistic inspiration? Fearful, beautiful, imaginery, fascinating, terrible, mythical, and more all rolled into one.

Lovely colouring, it's a good idea to wean oneself off a familiar path. I hope you do more!

This would make an excellent tattoo...

Gorgeous. And I LOVE that green- it has a gold shimmering quality to it.

Really, everyone...thank you so much. Isn't it odd that even after shows and sending work out to critics and editors and gallery owners and such, we can still feel unsure of trying out something new and worse! show it?

It keeps the blood fresh, I suppose...
